An all-white outfit can look very sleek or very soft, depending on shade, texture and fit. You can combine bright white with bright white, but also mix white, cream and ivory. Different materials make the difference between the individual garments visible.

Why white works so well in late summer
White is often associated with summer, but a fully white outfit can also work in late summer and autumn. A monochrome combination puts the emphasis on material, fit and accessories.
Rule 1: choose your shades with care
White is not one colour. There is bright optical white, off-white, cream and ivory. They can go together, but only if the difference is deliberate.
| Combination | Effect | When |
|---|---|---|
| Bright white with bright white | Sleek, graphic, fresh | By day, in the city, at the office |
| White with cream | Softer, warmer | Late summer evenings, dinner |
| Cream with ivory | Rich and understated | Towards autumn |
| Bright white with ivory | Clear warm-cool contrast | Can be combined deliberately |
Lay the shades next to each other in daylight if you want to see whether the colour difference looks deliberate enough. There is no rule that the brightest white must sit closest to the face.
Rule 2: play with texture
An outfit in one colour only becomes interesting through differences in material. Combine fine knitwear with smooth trousers, or a matte satin look with a sturdier skirt. A few examples from our collection:
- The Isadora cape T-shirt in white has a flowing cape that adds movement. Underneath, the knee-length Rosa skirt in white fits well: movement on top, a calm line below.
- The Cordelia blouse in white with a V-neck and matte satin look catches light in a soft way. Next to smooth trousers, a subtle play of shine and matte appears.
- The Eleanor cardigan in white is ribbed knit. The rib structure adds depth, especially over a plain top.
Rule 3: fit is extra visible
With white, seams and any show-through are often more visible. The Cosette is ultra high-waist, slim-straight and 32 inches long. The Florence is flared and ankle-length. Those are two clearly different silhouettes. Under light fabrics, underwear in a shade close to your skin is often less noticeable than bright white.
Four all-white outfits
- City day. Cosette trousers, Cordelia blouse half tucked in, white sneakers and a cognac leather bag.
- Dinner on the terrace. Isadora cape T-shirt with the Rosa skirt, flat sandals with a gold-coloured detail and small earrings.
- Office in late summer. Florence trousers with a plain white top and the Eleanor cardigan over your shoulders. Loafers in camel finish it off.
- Party or drinks. Cordelia blouse with the Florence trousers, a slim gold necklace and a small bag in a warm colour.
You will find more pieces in our trousers and tops, and for festive moments in the Celebration collection.
Hair, make-up and the rest
With a monochrome outfit, hair, make-up and accessories naturally stand out more. Use that as you like: completely neutral or with a striking colour accent.
Accessories: adding warmth
Cognac, camel, gold-coloured jewellery or a wicker bag add warmth, but black, silver, colour or fully white accessories can work just as well. Choose accessories based on the look you want.
White in September and beyond
The old rule that you no longer wear white after summer has long since stopped applying. What does change is how. Towards autumn you shift to cream and ivory, wear white with heavier fabrics such as a knitted cardigan or a wool polo, and choose closed shoes instead of sandals. White trousers with a cream sweater and brown loafers are at least as beautiful in September as in July. That way your all-white look becomes a calm base for the whole in-between season.
When you had better not wear all white
- At a wedding without a clear colour agreement. When in doubt, ask whether fully white, ivory or cream is welcome for guests.
- During activities where stains are very likely. That is mainly a practical consideration, not a style rule.
- On a day full of travel or gardening. Save your white look for moments when it can stay clean.
Keeping white beautiful
Follow the care label of each individual garment. The white items in this blog have different constructions and care advice. Treat stains with a suitable product and dry as the label indicates. Read our care instructions for more explanation.

Frequently asked questions
Can you combine different shades of white?
Yes. Bright white, off-white, cream and ivory can work together as long as the difference looks deliberate.
Which shoes suit an all-white outfit?
White sneakers, loafers, pumps, sandals or black shoes can all work. Choose based on the occasion and the contrast you want.
Can I wear all white to the office?
Certainly, as long as the pieces fit well and are not see-through. White trousers with a white top and a cardigan over it look polished and fresh.
How do I prevent white clothing from being see-through?
Choose fabrics with some weight, such as sturdy trousers or a lined skirt, and wear underwear in a shade that matches your skin instead of white.
