Merino wool
Merino wool

Merino wool is one of the most refined natural fibres, beloved for its exceptional softness, breathability, and natural temperature regulation. It offers long-lasting wearing comfort and feels pleasant against the skin, regardless of the season. Thanks to its resilient fibres, the material retains its shape and colours remain bright and fresh, even after frequent wear.

A timeless choice for those who value comfort, quality, and a well-groomed appearance.

Merino Wool Properties

Thermoregulation

Merino wool effortlessly adapts to the conditions. It retains warmth when needed and ventilates when possible. Thanks to its breathability and natural moisture absorption, it stays dry to the touch and maintains optimal wearing comfort, regardless of the season.

Softness

Merino wool feels exceptionally soft on the skin due to its fine, flexible fiber structure. The material moves effortlessly and prevents irritation, making it comfortable to wear, without the itchiness you know from traditional wool.

Naturally Breathable

Merino wool is known for its breathability, thanks to its ultrafine fiber structure. These thin fibers allow air to circulate and efficiently wick away moisture, keeping the material feeling dry and providing optimal comfort.

Self-cleaning Freshness

Merino wool stays fresh longer and requires little maintenance. Thanks to the natural, antibacterial properties of the fibres, odours are effectively countered, keeping the material clean and comfortable for longer.

Air Above Wash
Fresh by Air, Mindful With Water

Merino wool is naturally antibacterial and therefore stays fresh longer. Airing is often enough to refresh the garment.

If you still want to remove unpleasant or musty odors, read the following.

  • For subtle odor refreshing, a light mist of lukewarm water and natural vinegar (1:1) can be applied with a spray bottle.

  • For one merino wool item, a small amount of approximately 10 ml lukewarm water and 10 ml natural vinegar is usually sufficient.

Then let the garment rest in the fresh outdoor air in the shade, or in a room with an open window. So that the fibers recover naturally.

To maintain the exceptional softness and quality of Merino wool, careful cleaning is essential.

Step 1: Wool wash program

Regular washing helps remove invisible stains, keeps the material looking good, and prevents moths from being attracted to protein residues from sweat.

Always follow the washing label. Preferably hand wash wool in lukewarm water with a mild wool detergent or a splash of natural vinegar. No wool wash program? Then follow Step 1.5 Wool Hand Wash.

  • If machine washing is necessary, use the wool wash program: maximum 30°C and maximum 400 rpm. Always check the settings beforehand and adjust them if necessary. Use only a small amount of wool detergent.

  • Preferably wash Merino wool separately from other fabrics. Keep clothes with buttons and zippers separate from finer items without fasteners to prevent wear. Merino wool can be washed together with Cashmere.

  • Close all zippers and buttons and turn the garment inside out. Put it in a laundry bag and leave it inside out until it is completely dry and ironed.

For extra care, the garment can occasionally be professionally dry cleaned at a dry cleaner.

Hand wash
Step 1.5: Wool Handwash

Does your washing machine not have a wool program? Then always hand wash wool and cashmere garments. A regular wash program at 30°C is not the same. A wool wash program gently rocks the drum instead of spinning it, better protecting the fibers from stretching and damage.

  • Close all zippers and buttons, turn the garment inside out, and wash delicate items separately from clothes with fasteners. This prevents wear and tear.

  • Fill a tub with lukewarm water of no more than 30°C. Add a mild wool detergent according to the instructions, or use natural vinegar: about 15 ml per liter of water (5 liters of water with 75ml of natural vinegar). Do not mix wool detergent and vinegar.

  • Cold water will shock wool fibers and cause them to shrink; you can gently reshape the garment when it is damp.

  • Let the garment soak gently for 15 minutes. Do not rub, twist, or wring.

  • Then rinse thoroughly with clean, lukewarm water. Gently press out excess water by rolling the garment in a towel and let the garment dry flat on a flat surface to maintain its shape and fit.

*For extra care, the garment can occasionally be professionally cleaned at a dry cleaner.

Step 2: How to dry wool clothing
  • Gently squeeze out excess water by rolling the garment in a towel

  • After washing, keep the garment inside out and dry it flat (not hanging), to maintain its shape
Ironing
Step 3: How to iron wool clothing

Preparation: Always iron the garment inside out.

Temperature: Use the lowest setting (110°C) or a special wool/silk setting.

Important: Do not iron prints, finishes, or accessories.

Protection: Place a thin, dry or slightly damp cloth between the iron and the fabric to prevent shine and scorch marks.

Technique: Use plenty of steam and move the iron gently. Do not press too hard to avoid flattening the fibers.

Alternative (steaming): Hang the sweater in a humid bathroom while showering; the steam will remove wrinkles without heat.

Light ironing restores softness and gives the material a refined look.

Step 4: How to store wool clothing

Store Merino Wool Folded

  • It is best to store merino wool garments folded rather than hung. Due to the weight of the fabric, the garment can stretch when hung, causing the shoulders and fit to deform over time.

Storing folded helps maintain the natural structure of the fibers and prevents unwanted tension in the material. This contributes to preserving the garment's shape, appearance, and longevity.

Remove Crease Lines

  • If there are visible crease lines in the garment, you can easily remove them by ironing the garment inside out on the lowest setting, max 110°C. See Step 3

By storing your merino wool with care, its refined character and comfort will be preserved for a long time.

Remove lint
Extra Step: Lint Removal

At Issu & Lloyd, we pay close attention to reducing pilling by working with high-quality yarns, careful production, and refined finishing.

Even with high-quality materials, pilling and slight fuzzing can occur during wear due to friction. Therefore, avoid contact with rough surfaces as much as possible, such as belts, bags, and coarse materials.

If pilling does occur, gently remove it with a fabric shaver or wool comb.

This way, the garment will easily regain its neat appearance.

P.S. Do not use a razor blade to remove lint. This can pull or damage fibers, potentially leading to a hole in the garment.

Special Care for Delicate and Knitwear garments

At Issu & Lloyd, we believe that sophistication remains visible in every detail.

  • Always follow the washing label
  • Wash delicate items such as Wool, Cashmere, Knitwear, and Silk inside out and separately from garments with zippers, buttons, or hard parts
  • Use a delicate or wool wash cycle with a mild, liquid (wool) detergent
  • Avoid the dryer. Allow clothing to air dry naturally to preserve the fibers, shape, and quality.

Mindful care also helps while wearing the garment. Avoid contact with rough surfaces such as belts, bags, and coarse materials. This will keep your garment looking good for longer.
